What Makes Doctors at Rheumatology Specialty Center Different?

We are rheumatology specialists – specialists in treating patients like you. We are the doctors who take care of patients with ongoing joint, bone and muscular pain and autoimmune diseases such as lupus. See all the diseases we treat.

Our focus is on providing non-surgical musculoskeletal care that’s both effective and cost conscious.

All of our doctors are clinical instructors or professors at local medical schools. Patients come to Rheumatology Specialty Center knowing they can trust the quality of care they’ll be receiving from our doctors and nurse practitioners.

Quality & Value: Your Best Interest in Mind

All our doctors believe in treating each patient as an individual according to their lifestyle and their needs. They will evaluate you as a whole person considering the potential impact of your other illnesses or conditions on your treatment plan. Early intervention is key—meaning that the sooner we can diagnose your condition, the easier it will be to help you maintain a good quality of life.

We don’t perform surgery and we don’t push it either. In fact, we try and prevent unnecessary surgery by figuring out what is causing your symptoms. After a specific diagnosis has been made, treatment will be discussed to control the cause and your symptoms, with the ultimate goal of clinical remission (meaning you have no signs of the disease) when possible.

Treatments will depend on what type of rheumatologic illness you have. Treatments can include oral medication, injections at the site of pain or inflammation, physical therapy and medication given intravenously through infusions.

Our state-of-the-art care tools in our practice help us diagnose and care for you in one place, limiting the times you’ll be sent outside the practice for additional care or tests.

We also keep your primary care doctor informed about your visits and our findings. We work together with other doctors when needed to put the health needs of our patients first.

Practice History

Serving the Greater Philadelphia Area Since 1969

The Rheumatology Specialty Center has been serving the greater Philadelphia region for more than 45 years. Over the years, our practice has grown to one of the largest, freestanding rheumatology centers in the United States, focused on treating people with rheumatic diseases and conditions.

In addition to our focus on patients, we have been very involved in clinical research and trials on treatments for rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoporosis and more. We have been at the forefront of the dramatic advances in the treatment of rheumatic diseases. We have also published independent research conducted by our rheumatologists in many peer-reviewed medical journals.

Today, our rheumatologists continue the tradition of sharing what we know—teaching medical students from major universities and medical schools, training fellows at area hospitals, and lecturing nationally and internationally at respected industry conferences.

Patients come to us because we continually strive to be the Center for Excellence in Rheumatology in the Philadelphia region.
